Becoming Rorschach from Watchmen just became that much easier, thanks to this nifty little video tutorial on how to make his mask.
I was never a huge fan of the Watchmen movie, especially some of the costume designs, but I’ll admit that I liked how Zack Snyder depicted Rorschach’s mask on the big screen. The way that the patterns moved and changed to match the character’s facial expressions was both fascinating and unnerving, and now fans of the design can make their own such masks thanks to this video guide.
The basic idea here is that you use Thermochromic paint pigments on a clear printing base, which then allows to you to print whatever design you want. In this video’s case, they use an ink blot pattern like the one that was sported in the movie. As a wearer breathes in and out, the colors change from black to white when the ink is warmed more than 86Āŗ.
As you can see, the results are pretty cool. They’re certainly way better-looking than the cheap Rorschach masks that were being sold with Halloween costumes after the movie came out.
