Skyward Sword Will Take Dozens of Hours to Finish, Says Nintendo

Better clear some space in your schedule and your lounge: you’re going to need both for Skyward Sword.

It looks like Nintendo has stuffed a lot of content into the next Legend of Zelda game. Speaking at Nintendo’s pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference, Shigeru Miyamoto said that Skyward Sword could take anywhere between 50 – 100 hours to finish.

Miyamoto also touched on some of the game’s systems and mechanics. He offered a few more examples of upgradeable items, such as red potions that have had their restorative properties improved, as well as new items like a machine that blows sand around to clear it off floors. He also said that Nintendo hoped that people wouldn’t have to think too much about the game’s swordplay, and that after a while they’d be able to rely on muscle memory.

Even if Skyward Sword is at the lower end of Miyamoto’s estimate, there’s still an awful lot to do. That’s doubly exciting when you consider that Nintendo is mixing things up a little for Skyward Sword so that it’s not just the same Legend of Zelda game you’ve played a dozen times before. I doubt very much that it’s going to be a radical revamp of the concept, but a little freshness is always appreciated.

Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword comes out for the Wii on November 20th.
