A Dutch actress was quickly and awkwardly uninvited from an official Modern Warfare 3 launch party in Amsterdam after Activision discovered exactly what kind of films she stars in.
Are you familiar with the work of actress Kim Holland? She’s made numerous appearances on television and stars in several films, none of which I can actually name here because I don’t want to get fired. Suffice it to say that she’s best known for her roles in a very popular genre that you’re not very likely to see down at the local Cineplex.
Activision apparently wasn’t entirely clear on who she was when they invited her to an official Modern Warfare 3 VIP party in Amsterdam later this month. She got the invite not only because she’s a recognizable actress but also because she’s an actual gamer and a big fan of the Modern Warfare series. But a few days after she got the invitation, an un-invitation arrived.
“The American publisher of Modern Warfare 3 has indicated that they prefer no representatives of the adult entertainment industry at the party,” the message sent to Holland, apparently from Dutch television show and party host Gamekings [and obviously Google translated] says. “And so there must be some women in Britain and the Netherlands are canceled. I know, a little hypocritical, but the U.S. [is] the U.S. and I’m just the messenger.”
Holland expressed disappointment with the decision, not just because it means she won’t get the new Xbox 360 and free copy of Modern Warfare 3 that’s being given to all attendees, but because of what she sees as blatant hypocrisy on the part of Activision. It’s okay to make a videogame that has players killing hundreds of people, she complained, but associating with someone from the adult film industry is “really unacceptable.”
“Murder is neat,” she wrote, but “the love-makers [are] dirty.”
