The Doctor’s new companion has been revealed as a cute robotic dog! [No, not really.]
It’s no secret that Amy and Rory are on the way out, but the identity of their replacement very much was – until now! The BBC has revealed that the Doctor’s next companion will be Jenna-Louise Coleman, familiar to U.K. audiences for her work in television series including Emmerdale, Waterloo Road and Titanic.
“It always seems impossible when you start casting these parts, but when we saw Matt and Jenna together, we knew we had our girl. She’s funny and clever and exactly mad enough to step on board the TARDIS,” said Executive Producer and Lead Writer Steven Moffat. “It’s not often the Doctor meets someone who can talk even faster than he does, but it’s about to happen. Jenna is going to lead him his merriest dance yet.”
The new companion will be introduced in a “dramatic turn of events” leading up to the show’s “enormous, climactic 50th anniversary year,” but details beyond that are being kept very hush-hush. “That’s all you’re getting for now. Who she’s playing, how the Doctor meets her, and even where he finds her, are all part of one of the biggest mysteries the Time Lord ever encounters,” Moffat continued. “Even by the Doctor’s standards, this isn’t your usual boy meets girl.”
The seventh “series,” as our British friends like to call it, of Doctor Who is currently in production and will hit the airwaves later this year.
