Behold the Magnificently Awkward Atari Strap-On Swordfighting Game

It’s time to strap large black phallic objects to your crotch and parry, parry, thrust!

There’s no real way to ease into this story, so here goes: Swordfight is a real-life game in which participants hook classic Atari joysticks up to a harness generally reserved for sex toys. Once clad in their S&M-esque getup – complete with hands shackled behind their backs – players take to the streets and begin jousting. With their strap-on Atari devices. Yes, in public.

The stated objective, according to the official website-slash-tumblr-photoblog is to push the other players’ big red buttons with your long and firm joystick before they do the same to you. The player with the most points wins.

The unstated objective, of course, seems to be to make things as embarrassing as possible for pretty much anyone involved, including passersby watching the phallus duels, me for writing this article, and you for reading it.

That said, as awkward as this is, it’s the hilariously genius kind of awkward. And really, is there any better kind?

Check out more photos, a video, and even DIY directions (!) here.
