New Painkiller Gets a New Release Date

Painkiller: Hell & Damnation will finally arrive on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this spring.

Painkiller: Hell & Damnation, henceforth referred to as Painkiller HD (Hell & Damnation – HD – get it?) has been kicking around on the PC since last October but the console version, originally promised for January 22, hasn’t yet materialized. Why? I don’t know. But the good news is that it’s on the way!

Reinhard Pollice of Nordic Games attributed the “slight delay” to ensuring that “the console communities can enjoy the fiendishly ghoulish experience that we know they want and deserve,” which I assume means that more polish was needed to get the thumbs-up from Microsoft and Sony. Like the PC release of the game, the console editions of Painkiller HD will offer an abbreviated single-player campaign and several multiplayer modes, including a two-player co-op mode.

It may not be the most startling news in the world but it’s worth a mention because we’d previously quoted the January release date and also because this is the first version of the only Painkiller game worth playing that’s made it to either the 360 or the PS3. (The original Xbox got a version of Painkiller called Hell Wars back in 2006.) Painkiller HD may not be quite up to the original but if you’ve never stepped into the blood-soaked boots of Heaven’s Hitman and you don’t play games on your PC, it’s definitely worth a look.

Painkiller: Hell & Damnation comes out on April 5 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. To find out more, hit up painkillergame.com.
