The truth of yesterday’s Bethesda teasers is finally revealed: B.J. Blazkowicz is back!
Someday, Bethesda will get around to giving us Prey 2, but that day is not today. Today is for Wolfenstein! Specifically, Wolfenstein: The New Order, a shooter set in the 1960s of an alternate universe in which the Nazis won the Second World War. But there’s one man they didn’t count on: a man named Blazkowicz!
So, there you have it. Bethesda released a quick teaser video today showing off the construction of some kind of huge Nazi mech while the world burns in the background, but aside from advertising the “Nazis Win!” angle, it doesn’t tell us a whole lot. In fact, the most informative part of the announcement is probably the final line of the fine-print disclaimer, which reminds us, “The story and contents of this game are not intended to and should not be construed in any way to condone, glorify or endorse the beliefs, ideologies, events, actions, persons or behavior of the Nazi regime or to trivialize its war crimes, genocide, and other crimes against humanity.” You know, in case any of that was actually in question.
Wolfenstein: The New Order is being developed by MachineGames, a studio founded in 2009 by veterans of Chronicles of Riddick developer Starbreeze Studios, for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and “next generation consoles.”
