Destiny Trailer Lays Down the Law of the Jungle

A space wolf is nothing without its space pack.

Bungie’s upcoming MMOFPS Destiny has the attention of quite a few among the gaming community, but we haven’t seen much of the game first-hand. A recent live-action trailer sheds some light on the intra-stellar adventures coming in the full game, and … well, we still haven’t seen any first-hand footage of the game. But we at least get a gorgeous video, directed by Iron Man director Jon Favreau and featuring some chilling prose.

In Destiny, you play as a Guardian of the City, one of the defenders of humanity’s last bastion on Earth. Each of the three classes of Guardians is impressive, but if this trailer is any indication of their role in society, they’re downright legendary. Then again, it’s hard not to romanticize the notion of talented warriors flying across the galaxy to combat vicious alien enemies. Especially the Hunter, who takes down half a dozen gigantic Cabal warriors with a single revolver – somebody needs to nerf that guy.

The core gameplay of Destiny is at least somewhat present in the video: the Hunter, Titan, and Warlock classes work in tandem to take out a variety of enemies, and we get a glimpse of human and alien vehicles. This is just a taste of what’s to come, though: the trailer tips us off to the fact that Bungie will be debuting its worldwide gameplay reveal at the PlayStation E3 press conference on June 10, 2013.

Destiny will launch on the PS3, PS4, Xbox360, and Xbox One, though we’ll have to wait for the E3 press conference for more details. It is interesting to note that Bungie decided to hold the big reveal at Sony’s party, rather than Microsoft’s or some third-party event – it seems that the former Halo developer is taking its new multiplatform freedom to heart.
