Microsoft’s next console, the Xbox One, will make its retail debut just in time for the 2013 holiday season.
Word of this release date was initially outed by Rare during a pre-show demo of Kinect Sports Rivals (according to gaming-centric talking head Geoff Keighley), but it has since been confirmed by Microsoft.
As for a specific release date, that’s still a mystery. Microsoft claims the system will debut in November at a $499 price point, but anything else is up in the air.
Microsoft’s E3 press conference is ongoing, so expect further details surrounding the console’s launch to emerge just as soon as the company actually delivers them. All this waiting is the worst.
Update: Those who purchase the Xbox One on launch day will receive special “Day One Edition” controllers for the console which read “Day One 2013.” Expect most of these to be snapped up by those who pre-order the system.
Update 2: Amazon is now listing the Xbox One with a release date of November 30, 2013. As mentioned above, the price is $499, but with this page now open those of you itching to purchase one of these things can put your money down on a pre-order right this very minute.
