Marvel Heroes Finally Makes Its PC Debut

This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

After four years in development, developer Gazillion has launched its superhero-based MMORPG Marvel Heroes.

“For over three years we’ve been building Marvel Heroes to be an exciting, free-to-play massively multiplayer action game, and we are ecstatic to finally put it in the hands of Marvel fans and gamers alike,” writes Gazillion president David Brevik in this morning’s official announcement. “The creation of Marvel Heroes has been a labor of love. As a die-hard Marvel fan, it’s an honor to give players the chance to take on the roles of their favorite Marvel Super Hero in an epic adventure.”

As Brevik’s words may not be enough to properly instil hype for this title, Gazillion has also served up a launch trailer for Marvel Heroes. That’d be the clip you see embedded above.

Those of you who haven’t been keeping detailed notes on the development of Marvel Heroes may be scratching your heads, wondering why you ought to care about any of this. “What can this game offer me that World of Warcraft or EVE Online can’t?” you wonder aloud, not realizing that I’m unable to hear any of your questions. In case you’re in this boat, Gazillion offers the following blurb detailing what you can expect to find in Marvel Heroes:

At launch, Marvel Heroes will feature 21 Super Heroes, each with unique and extensive leveling systems, power trees and equipment. Players can choose to wear costumes from over 70 years of Marvel history, including costumes from Marvel’s recent theatrical blockbusters Marvel’s The Avengers and Iron Man 3. At any time, players can swap between their favorite Marvel Super Heroes on the fly. Set across diverse locations from the Marvel Universe, Marvel Heroes offers fast-paced, action-packed game play with a robust crafting system, intense player-versus-player (PvP) combat, End Game, and much more.

As you’d expect from an MMO, Gazillion claims that it will periodically release new content for the game “including additional story missions, new playable Marvel Super Heroes, end-game content and much more.” As the game itself is of the free-to-play persuasion, it’d be safe to assume that these updates will also be largely gratis (or that if there is a charge for them, that they’ll go free of charge after a short period of initial availability).

If you’re interested in taking Marvel Heroes for a spin, you need only pay a visit to the official Marvel Heroes site, register an account, then download the game’s client. All of this is free of charge. Though currently PC exclusive, Gazillion has claimed that an OS X version of Marvel Heroes is currently in the works. We’ll bring you more on that iteration of the game just as soon as Gazillion opts to hand out more info.
