NetherRealm Studios has announced plans to release the Martian Manhunter as a DLC addition to Injustice: Gods Among Us, and we’ve got all the release date and pricing info you need.
Injustice: Gods Among Us has a long, successful history when it comes to downloadable content. Four characters and nearly innumerable bonus costumes have been released to date, and they must be selling very well, as NetherRealm has made little secret of its plans to continue releasing new comic book characters for the game’s roster as long as people are willing to pay for them.
The latest addition? Justice League stalwart J’onn J’onzz, aka the Martian Manhunter. MM debuted in 1955 and has spent most of the past half-century as a key member of DC’s Justice League. While actually more powerful than Superman, the Martian Manhunter is not the American ideal of white male aesthetics – actually he’s a big, green shapeshifter – so he’s never been that wildly popular among readers, but as a DC character he’s proven crucial time and time again, so it makes perfect sense for NetherRealm to add him to the Injustice roster.
As for the when and how of this release, here’s what you need to know: The Martian Manhunter DLC will debut on the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network come July 30. Unfortunately, this latest character is not covered under the Injustice Season Pass, so if you want him, you’re going to have to shell out $5 for the privilege. NetherRealm has a history of simultaneously dropping balance patches and bonus costumes alongside their DLC characters, and we expect that trend to continue here. We’ll have more on the specifics just as soon as they’re known.
In the meanwhile, enjoy the Martian Manhunter’s official trailer, released during the recent Comic Con expo. It should give you a superficial feel for the character, and if you haven’t already seen his super attack, you really should. Mars makes an awesome weapon.
