Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright Is Coming to The West

This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright is coming to European and North American 3DSs in 2014.

A few years ago, fans of Level 5’s puzzling Professor Layton series, and Capcom’s Ace Attorney lawyer simulators were treated to an amazing announcement: a Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright crossover game. Unfortunately, it was only released in Japan, and has stayed that way for the past two years. At its most recent Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced that the game will finally be making its way to English speaking territories, with a European and North American release some time in 2014.

Western Ace Attorney fans in particular have been getting the middle finger from Capcom for quite a while. We completely missed out on Ace Attorney Investigations 2, and when the long awaited Ace Attorney 5 was announced, it was revealed that we were only going to get a digital download version.

Because of this, any hope of ever seeing an English release of Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright was all but lost, so its a very nice surprise to see Capcom and Level 5 listening to its Western fanbase for once.

Check out the announcement trailer, which shows off some familiar gameplay segments from both series, as well as some cool anime-style cutscenes. It’s nice to see Maya featured in this game, as it looks like she won’t be coming back for Ace Attorney 5.

Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy, the latest game in the Professor Layton franchises, was also announced for a Western release in “early” 2014.
