Open Beta is planned near the Japanese PS4 launch date, says Shuhei Yoshida.

Deep Down, the procedurally generated fantasy online RPG from Capcom, will be free to play. The announcement was made at Tokyo Games Show, and Shuhei Yoshida was quick to Tweet the news, along with an open Beta planned near the PS4’s Japanese launch date.

Deep Down is a fantasy dungeon crawler nominally set in New York circa 2094. You play as someone who has the ability to read memories trapped in artifacts and monuments, which is why you keep finding yourself facing off against dragons and the like. There will be co-op play, for up to three friends, and a playable demo has been doing the rounds at TGS. Our Steven Bogos had a look at it and came away unimpressed, mainly thanks to clunky combat and an insufficient variety of monsters to smite.

This PS4 exclusive doesn’t have a confirmed release date yet.
