Rumor: Dark Matter Studio May Not Exist Any More

An external company may be working on the game’s ending.

If you’ve been following the Dark Matter fiasco, you may be wondering how InterWave Studios, the company behind the bodge job, intends to end its game. The answer, at least according to Gamasutra sources, is: nope, nobody home but us management. InterWave’s development team got canned sometime between July and August, and only two management staff are left to keep the studio ticking over.

It’s possible another company may be working on the game’s ending, even without the original team. However it’s difficult to see why anyone would want to, bearing in mind that the vendors which were handling sales have pulled out. GOG’s offering cash back to anyone who bought it before October 21st, but Steam’s still awaiting “a patch” to resolve the situation. Maybe publisher Iceberg and the tattered remnants of InterWave want to keep on Valve’s good side, but without cash – remember, this all started because InterWave’s Kickstarter raised about 12% of its funding goal – it’s difficult to see what’s in it for the as yet unnamed external studio.

“We are working to offer a more conclusive and satisfying ending to the game as we speak and expect a fix to appear as soon we are able to,” said Erik Schreuder, CEO of Iceberg Interactive, Dark Matter‘s publisher. Best of luck to him. Sisyphus had an easier job than that.
