Meeting Xbox One Demand “Will Be a Struggle,” Says Microsoft

According to Microsoft’s Phil Harrison, the company is doing everything it can to “accelerate” the production of Xbox Ones.

Following the launch of the PlayStation 4, Sony assured eager consumers that the company would be able to supply retailers with enough of the console to give gamers who didn’t get one on launch day at least a “sufficient” chance of finding it over the course of the holiday season. That being the case, with the Xbox One now on the market and presumably selling well, Microsoft doesn’t seem able to extend the same guarantee.

“Our job on a tactical level is to ensure we get enough supply to retailers and customers as we possibly can to meet demand, and that will be a struggle but we are doing our best,” said Microsoft’s Phil Harrison. “There will be difficulty getting stock through until Christmas but we will do everything we can to accelerate that.” While Harrison’s statement is somewhat vague on how thin Xbox One supplies are going to be stretched, it’s a notably less confident statement than the one made by Sony’s Andy House who complimented the “good production ramp up” and “sense of supply” accompanying the PS4. “I think that we will be in good supply in the countries that we’ve launched in,” he said.

Granted, this could all just amount to little more than different tones and levels of rhetoric. Despite Sony’s claims of a proficient supply there are stories emerging of retailers selling out their stock of PS4s. That being the case, we’ll just have to wait and see how well the two companies are able to get their consoles back on store shelves in the coming weeks. Either way, if you already have a PS4 or Xbox One, consider yourself lucky.
