Blade Runner: The Aquarelle Edition is the old blade runner like you’ve never seen it before.
If you’ve got a half-hour and nothing to do, allow me to recommend Blade Runner: The Aquarelle Edition. Created by Swedish artist Anders Ramsell, a man who clearly has way too much time on his hands, it’s a series of 12,597 aquarelles – a type of painting that uses transparent rather than opaque watercolors – each roughly 1.5 by 3 centimeters in size, strung together in a series to recreate a condensed and wonderfully unique version of the classic sci-fi film.
Ramsell said on his YouTube page that he’s “taken the liberty to change a lot of things” in his version of the film, although it does follow the original plot of the movie and uses its dialog and music. “It was never my intent to make an exact version of the movie, that would fill no purpose,” he wrote. “Instead I wanted to create a something different and never before seen — ‘The Aquarelle Edition’.”
