The Slabtown Games team’s looking for $96,000 to make this happen.
Storyscape, the universal RPG that aims to take all the busywork out of your tabletop experience, has taken its tablet-based goodness to Kickstarter. Slabtown Games seeks $96,000 to make the magic happen. If all you want to do is be a player, kick in a minimum of $10; that gets you Mercenary status, and a copy of the app when it launches, which is all you need to play. If you fancy yourself a GM, you’ll need to pony up at least $35, for access to a Genre Pack, the vital tool that transforms you into the master of all you survey.
See those screenshots? These are prototype builds. The finished product will let you spin the camera around, zoom in and out, and all that fun stuff. But the key here is the information panels, which slide in and out from the sides of the screen at your command. Don’t want to look at your character sheet right now? You don’t have to.
The rules are being written by Robin D. Laws, and if you don’t know who that is, you hate fun. Specifically, you hate the kind of fun that comes with vampires, mutants, superhero cops, Dungeons and Dragons, Esoterrorism, Feng Shui: the Hong Kong Action RPG, Star Trek RPG, GUMSHOE, Cthulhu, and many, many, many other cool things. The system is based around Tags, special benefits that accrue to your character over time. Did you do Lady Fairfax a favor? Then you’re Tagged as a friend of Lady Fairfax, which gives you benefits when interacting with NPCs allied to her, and probably negatives when talking to her enemies.
“This thing is going to take a ton of work,” says Slabtown. “It’s not just a tabletop roleplaying game, it’s also a massive computer game project. But we’re all fully committed to this thing, and we’re determined to make it work.
“After all, we want to play it too!”
