J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter spinoff film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be released in theaters in November of 2016.
Revealed to be a film trilogy by Warner Bros. earlier this year, the Harry Potter spinoff book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will hit theaters in November 18, 2016. The film, which is based on the 54-page book of the same name, currently has no director, nor stars attached. It is known, however, that the film’s script is being written by Rowling herself, and will serve as the author’s screenwriter role debut.
Originally introduced in the Harry Potter book series as a textbook, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was published in 2001 and will feature “magizoologist” Newt Scamander and is set seven decades before Harry Potter & Co. make their way to Hogwarts. The stories themselves are neither prequels or sequels to the boy wizard’s adventures, but will be connected to the wizarding world Rowling concocted for Harry Potter.
Just in case you’re wondering if video games will be part of the equation, the answer is a definite yes. In an earlier press release by Warner Bros., it mentioned that the company is planning to develop Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them for “videogame, consumer products and digital initiatives businesses,” which will link with Rowling’s Pottermore.com digital hub built around the Harry Potter universe.
Harry Potter fans might want to mark November 18, 2016 on their calendars for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’s film debut — even though there’s little to no chance Harry Potter himself will make an appearance. But hey, at least we’ll get to see Rowling’s wizarding world on the big-screen once more.
Anyone excited for this or are you worried Rowling might be stretching it a bit too far in making a 54-page book into a film trilogy?
