Trivia time here in Game of Thrones corner: what words of wrath did the valiant knight of Meereen fling at Khaleesi Daenerys just before getting decisively spanked by Daario Naharis? Was it something to do with her parentage, perhaps? Indeed it was; in fact it was the time-honored Monty Python insult, ‘your mother was a hamster.’ You can probably guess the rest.

“That was [series creator] Dan Weiss’s idea and it was so hilarious that I had to do it,” says linguist David Peterson, who has the unenviable task of creating the languages used on the show. It’s one of several Easter Eggs Peterson has planted, and while some fans were able to guess the ‘your momma’ bit, nobody put mother and Python together.
