Assassin’s Creed IV: Freedom Cry DLC Goes Standalone This Month

This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

Soon you won’t need Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag to play the game’s DLC.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Freedom Cry, the serialized story-based DLC for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, will be released as a standalone downloadable game later this month, Ubisoft announced today.

The $15 standalone version of Freedom Cry will be available for PS3 and PS4 on February 19, followed by the PC version on February 25. There’s currently no word on when or if the standalone option will come to Xbox One or Xbox 360. Freedom Cry is available as an add-on for players who own Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag on all five platforms.

In Freedom Cry, players control Adewale, pirate, assassin and first mate to Black Flag protagonist Edward Kenway. Finding himself shipwrecked off the coast of Haiti, Adewale looks to amass a new crew for his ship by freeing local slaves. Critics have generally spoken well of Freedom Cry, though it has been almost universally described as a short experience.
