Assassins Creed Mirage will reportedly be a back to basics game set in Baghdad that Ubisoft will launch in spring 2023 Assassin's Creed Mirage

Assassin’s Creed Mirage Reportedly Due Next Year, Is ‘Back to Basics’

Since Assassin’s Creed Valhalla launched two years ago, fans have been wondering what’s next for troubled developer Ubisoft’s franchise. We know the live-service Assassin’s Creed Infinity is coming down the line. However, there is another project planned for the series that was originally going to be an expansion to the latest game. Reportedly named Assassin’s Creed Mirage, this is a standalone adventure possibly coming next year.

As spotted by VGC, YouTuber j0nathan detailed alleged aspects of the game on his channel. Bloomberg writer and video games industry insider Jason Schreier confirmed and rejected some of the information on his Twitter:

As it looks now, Assassin’s Creed Mirage will launch in spring 2023. It will take place in Baghdad between the years 860-870 and allegedly stars Valhalla‘s Basim as a young man. The title will reportedly ditch the leveling, RPG style of the more recent entries and return to basics, with the original Assassin’s Creed serving as an inspiration. Interestingly, there is also talk of a remake of the first game that will be part of Mirage‘s season pass.

Both Assassin’s Creed Mirage and a remake of the first title are intriguing concepts. While Assassin’s Creed was rough around the edges and monotonous, I felt there was a ton of potential in it that was not revisited in the sequels. There was more of a focus on stealth. Gathering information on your targets before killing them and planning your escape route were great concepts, too. It would be refreshing if the rumored remake and Mirage ironed those ideas out and implemented them.

We will likely receive confirmation on some of this information on September 10 at a new Ubisoft Forward.
