Assassin’s Creed Red Art Reveals First Look at Protagonist

Thanks to a recent leak from a Ubisoft developer, we might have our first look at the protagonist for the Japan-set Assassin’s Creed Red.

This premature reveal arrived in the LinkedIn banner image for developer Pierre Boudreau (via Reddit user Cygus_Lorman). Boudreau joined Ubisoft in 2017 and currently serves as a senior writer. His credits include work on projects like Watch Dogs: Legion, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and most recently, Assassin’s Creed Mirage. If you head to the writer’s LinkedIn page now, you’ll see that his banner now features Valhalla’s Eivor. Luckily, Reddit user Rooonaldooo99 captured and shared the Assassin’s Creed Red protagonist leak on Imgur before it was taken down.

The cropped image features an unnamed female character kitted out with all-black clothing and a sword. In the background, we can see what seems to be a Japanese temple. It’s unclear if this new lead will be Assassin’s Creed Red’s sole protagonist or if Ubisoft is, once again, offering players the opportunity to switch between a male and female hero. It’s important to remember that Ubisoft hasn’t officially mentioned the character anywhere else online. So, while it seems incredibly likely that the image shows our newest main character, it’s best to keep expectations in check until the publisher has more to share.

Assassin’s Creed Red, the project’s codename, was revealed last year as the installment that will finally take the franchise to Japan. Early information on the project has it propped up to be another open-world RPG entry following the series’ back-to-basics excursion, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which was released earlier this month. Other than the sword, which we got another look at today, the project’s reveal trailer promises to, yet again, bring back the series’ iconic Hidden Blade as a usable weapon. Ubisoft has yet to reveal any other details about the game, so be sure to stay tuned for any updates.
