GameSpot has announced Brain Bust, an upcoming online trivia tournament aimed squarely at gamers.

Beginning on May 14, Brain Bust players will compete in genre-specific rounds, answering questions as quickly as possible in an attempt to move on to the next round and genre. The first round focuses on the FPS genre; the second round is about RPGs; the third round is Classic Gaming; and the fourth and final round will cover games in general.

Each round will narrow down the field: The top 64 players in the first round will move on, while only the top four from the third round will make their way into the fourth. The top two players after the completion of four rounds will be flown to the GameSpot studios in San Francisco, where they will compete live on GameSpot Tournament TV to determine the champ. The grand prize is a $1,000 Best Buy gift card, and all entrants will receive a unique Brain Bust emblem in their profiles.

Brain Bust registration begins on May 9 and is open to U.S. residents who are GameSpot Total Access subscribers. More information, as well as subscription and registration links, are available at the official Brain Bust site.
