Chicken Police is a narrative-driven adventure game from The Wild Gentlemen set in a world of anthropomorphic animals. The city of Clawville is an interspecies melting pot that mirrors 1940s America and its penchant for organized crime. You play as Sonny Featherland, an aged detective knocking on retirementās door, who gets dragged into one last case.
The gameplay relies mostly on talking with important characters and selecting dialogue options. Sonny will chronicle details about people and clues in his journal as he comes across them and will directly inform the player of his thought process when questioning suspects. The interrogation sections have you pick an appropriate question to push the respondent into giving you the information you need. You can do quite poorly and the plot will continue to move forward, though it is hard to tell if any difference exists when you do well.
At certain milestones Sonny will piece together the investigation, linking info with people and clues to draw a conclusion on what to do next. Itās a nice visual representation of detective work, but due to the linear plot, you canāt progress without plugging in the proper pieces. Aside from that, there are a handful of shooting gallery-style minigames and environmental puzzles that inject a bit of action into the experience.
Chicken Police is out now for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch for $19.99.
