Fans of the reboot ofĀ Sabrina the Teenage Witch on Netflix,Ā Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, got some really bad news today. The thought-to-be-successful series was canceled, making the final eight episodes set to premiere later this year the conclusion of the show. This was very likely not the plan and will probably leave viewers with a lot of questions and cliffhangers, as the episodes were already filmed before the decision of cancellation was made.
When it concludes, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will have aired two complete seasons, broken up into four parts. It isn’t clear why Netflix is canceling the series since the streamer doesn’t publicly release viewership numbers. The show definitely picked up plenty of cultural clout when it first premiered, and the second season was considered a success as well. However, maybe that didn’t translate into viewership numbers. Hopefully, the final episodes of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina don’t leave people desperately wanting more of the series.
In happier news, the critically acclaimed and definitely successful Netflix show The Crown, about the life of Queen Elizabeth II, is actually getting a sixth season after showrunner Peter Morgan previously decided to end the series after the fifth season. Morgan said that during the development process for the fifth season, which will star Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II, the creators realized that they just had too much story to tell for one season.
This must make Netflix happy as the series was one of its most prestigious, winning multiple awards and nominations, and the decision to end it was all in Morgan’s hands. The sixth season is pretty far off though, as Netflix hasn’t even set a release date for the fourth season starring Olivia Colman.
Although, obviously none of this is as important as the Cuphead show coming to Netflix.
