Does the Airplane Mode Glitch Still Work in Monopoly GO?

Dice rolls are limited in Monopoly GO, which makes them all the more valuable. You can’t play the mobile board game without them, so many players may be looking for a way to hold onto them or strategically hoard rolls until the right moment. This is where the Monopoly GO Airplane Mode glitch comes into play.

As of this writing, it appears that the Monopoly GO Airplane Mode glitch has been patched out. While some players may still have the opportunity to use it, it seems that most users are no longer able to take advantage of this glitch in the system. Developer Scopely has seemingly been pushing out this patch in waves, and it appears that most users have been unfortunately affected by this change.

Why Would Scopely Remove The Airplane Mode Glitch?

We can’t say for certain why Scopely would remove the Airplane Mode glitch in Monopoly GO, but the reasoning is probably due to an adverse effect on the game’s monetization. While players couldn’t just spawn infinite dice, it was likely negatively affecting the money that Scopley was bringing in per month. Why would players pay for dice if they could mess with the system and get plenty of them for free?

While Monopoly GO can feel aggressively monetized at times, the Airplane Glitch allowed players the chance to turn the tide in their favor. Some players likely still have plenty of Dice due to this glitch, as it seems that Scopely was not able to remove them from their accounts.

What Was the Monopoly GO Airplane Mode Glitch?

The Airplane Mode glitch did not give players infinite rolls in Monopoly GO. Many players might be confused when they hear ā€œairplane mode glitchā€ and think it was as simple as turning on airplane mode and rolling dice without consequences. But that was not the case. The glitch was convoluted and could be tedious to perform repeatedly.

When Monopoly GO players turned on airplane mode, they would have a limited time to roll dice before the game told them it needed an internet connection to continue. The dice rolls performed without an internet connection were stored in the deviceā€™s local memory and would have been uploaded to the gameā€™s servers once a connection was re-established. Players could have then recorded the numbers rolled and manipulated their rewards by erasing the local data before it was sent to the cloud.

For example, say you turned on airplane mode and could roll four times before the internet pop-up stops you from playing. You would have needed to write down or remember the numbers you rolled, then close out of the game and clear your data. When you reopened the game, you could use those predetermined rolls to gauge how many dice you wanted to use when landing on specific spaces.

While the information in the video linked above may be outdated, this information from Yooosin did an excellent job showing you how you could have used this glitch to your advantage.
