Rabbit & Bear Studios has announced a new RPG, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, as well as a plan to launch an accompanying Kickstarter campaign. The studio consists of creators of the fabled RPG series Suikoden, including Yoshitaka Murayama, Junko Kawano, and Osamu Komuta, as well as Junichi Murakami, who previously worked on the Castlevania series.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes follows the protagonist, Nowa, a young boy from a remote village in the continent of Allraan. The Galdean Empire has discovered a technology that amplifies magical objects called rune-lenses. As a result, the Empire is looking across the continent in search of another item that can further its conquest.

Check out a (very) brief gameplay teaser:

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is “an ode to the classic Japanese RPG genre from the PlayStation era.” It will have 2.5D graphics, similar to that of Octopath Traveler, and 100 different unique heroes to join the protagonist. Battles are turn-based with up to six party members, and the game will include a guild system where players can change fortress attributes. Boss battles have a camera that dynamically shifts based on the environment.

Players will have a “fortress town” that gradually grows as more characters join. These characters can range from being blacksmiths to being chefs. As the town grows, new trade options will appear as well.

Project lead Murayama told Gematsu, “One of the core game loops in Eiyuden is to experience the wide variety of different characters and personalities in your 100 person army.”

The Kickstarter campaign for Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is set to launch on July 27 at 9 a.m. PT. The campaign is seeking $500,000 for a PC release and will have a single stretch goal to unlock PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch (or potentially next-gen Switch) versions of the game. The game is also planned for release in fall 2022.
