Final Fantasy VI Terra Magitek statue expensive series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi Square Enix $12,000 1,485,000 yen limited 600

Even Final Fantasy’s Creator Thinks $12,000 for an FFVI Statue Is Too Expensive

Last October, Square Enix revealed a breathtaking MasterlineĀ Final Fantasy VI 1/6 statue of Terra in her Magitek armor, modeled after the original art of Yoshitaka Amano. At the time, it received no pricing information, but it was clear it was going to cost a few thousand dollars. Except, no, it turns out that it actually costs much more than a few thousand dollars. Square Enix has revealed the FFVI statue will cost 1,485,000 yen, or $11,547.79 USD at the current exchange rate. (The yen is weak at the moment.) Even the creator of the Final Fantasy franchise, Hironobu Sakaguchi, thinks that is too much for a Final Fantasy VI Terra Magitek armor statue. [Update 4/26: The statue is available to preorder at Big Bad Toy Store… for $13,799.99.]

Cheesemeister on Twitter helpfully translated Sakaguchi’s tweet that contains concerns about the price. It concludes with the question, “Are you okay, Square Enix?”

Sakaguchi recently completed development of his Apple Arcade-exclusive RPG Fantasian, which used beautiful real-life dioramas to serve as its in-game environments. The man knows exactly how much it costs to create a high-quality physical piece of art. A gorgeous 1/6 statue of Terra in Magitek armor from Final Fantasy VI does not warrant a price tag approaching $12,000.

But that being said, man, it is an incredible statue. It will be limited to 600 units worldwide, launching July 28, 2023.

Do you agree with creator Hironobu Sakaguchi and his concerns about this Final Fantasy VI statue? If not, congratulations on being wealthy!
