Looking for that special someone to go fragging with on weekends? The publisher behind Edge magazine and GamesRadar has started a dating service exclusively for gamer guys and gals.
Possibly perpetuating the stereotype that gamers are lonely, or perhaps just broadening the online dating market into every tiny niche they can find, Future Plc., the owner of gaming media magazines Edge and Official Playstation Magazine and sites GamesRadar and CVG, launched Game 4 A Date where gamers of all genders can look for their co-op partners for life.
Game 4 A Date describes itself as “a dating site designed just for you, helping you to find that someone special who shares a zeal for games.”
Those who register an account for 1 Euro before February 15 will be entered into a raffle for a free PlayStation 3 console.
What is perhaps most sad about the service, aside from the obvious questions about why anyone would use it as opposed to searching for gamers on more popular dating sites, is that Future contracted the site out to WhiteLabelDating, a company specializing in developing niche dating sites. When I accepted the homepage’s offer for a free soulmate search, I was redirected to WhiteLabelDating’s search engine featuring users who are most likely also the representatives for WhiteLabel’s other destinations RichLadyLove and Spice Extreme Dating.
Despite the potential ridiculousness of using a gaming-exclusive hookup site, if any young, female Escapist readers stumble upon “Logan Frederick” on Game 4 A Date, don’t be afraid of sending him a pickup line. It’ll work.
