There are enough people excited about Gears of War 3 to fill a city.
We’ve had to wait longer than expected, but now, with just weeks to go before Gears of War 3 finally arrives in stores, Microsoft has revealed that it’s the fastest pre-selling Xbox 360 exclusive in system’s history, with 1.3 million pre-orders and counting.
This news, which was announced alongside the Gears 3 DLC “Season Pass,” would seem to bode rather well for design director Cliff Bleszinski’s dream of the game selling ten million copies. These figures would also seem to suggest that analyst Arvind Bhatia’s prediction that Gears 3 would help make up for a very lackluster summer of videogame sales.
Obviously pre-order numbers don’t guarantee sales success, but it’s a useful indicator of the buzz around the game. If Gears 3 is the same quality as its predecessors, it’s unlikely that it won’t at least match the sales figures of the previous two games – around 3 million copies each – and it’s hard to imagine that it won’t exceed them, at least by a little.
Gears of War 3 comes out for Xbox 360 on September 20th.
