Jack in Ghostrunner 2

How Long Does Ghostrunner 2 Take to Beat?

While Ghostrunner 2 is all about slicing and dicing enemies with lightning-fast reflexes, that doesn’t mean the game will be over in the blink of an eye. There’s a good amount of meat on these bones, so how long does it take to beat Ghostrunner 2?

How Long Is Ghostrunner 2?

Since game length is such an individual metric to rank given that every player’s experience will likely be a little difference, the best I can give you is my personal experience. Ghostrunner 2 took me roughly 14 hours to complete. Bear in mind, that playthrough involved tracking down every collectible in all the stages and replaying certain levels to pick up any that I may have missed.

I would estimate that if collectible Artifacts and Audio Logs doesn’t appeal to you and you focus exclusively on the main objectives then you’ll probably be able to complete the story in around 10 hours. Since Ghostrunner 2 is a fairly difficult game that will likely see you die repeatedly, it’s possible that your playtime could be less or greater than that number based on your skill level.

For the sake of comparison, the first Ghostrunner, which released in 2020, took an average of seven hours to complete the campaign. Going out of your way to gather all the collectibles and achievements brought that number up to 13 hours. The Project Hel expansion then added another three hours on top of that. At the time of writing, developer One More Level has yet to confirm whether any DLC will be added to the sequel.

Ghostrunner 2 Offers Good Replayability

Given the kind of game we’re talking about, which is to say a first-person action platformer, many may jump to conclusion that Ghostrunner 2 is a relatively short experience. While that be true when compared to the sprawling adventures of something like Starfield or Cyberpunk 2077, the game does offer some additional content to really give players their money’s worth.

After the game’s fourth mission, players will unlock something called RogueRunner.exe. This mode recontextualizes the mechanics of Ghostrunner 2 into a rogue-like format. Players will begin each run with running, selecting from a series of starting challenges that will reward unique upgrades or extra lives upon competition. As your progress through the story, more stages will be added that increase the difficulty but also grant unique rewards. Obviously, if you lose all your lives in a run you’re kicked back to the beginning and lose all your advantages. Try again!

Given the replayable nature of this format, players that get really into RogueRunner.exe can expect to add several more hours onto their playthrough. While it’s not as curated or polished as the rest of the game, it’s a fun distraction that’s often significantly more challenging than the campaign. A bonus is that RogueRunner.exe is available to play through Ghostrunner 2‘s main menu, meaning you can almost treat it like a separate entity.
