At the DC FanDome event, following the reveal of Gotham Knights, WB Games Montreal also showed off a new gameplay trailer. This trailer focuses on the player controlling Batgirl, and Mr. Freeze has apparently returned to Gotham City. He wants to flash-freeze the city, as evidenced by all of the ice accumulated throughout. Gotham Knights will be playable solo or with online two-player co-op.
After beating up a few random mob enemies, Batgirl uses her grappling hook to make her way up to Mr. Freeze’s location. As both Batgirl and companion Robin make their way through the area, they encounter some of Mr. Freeze’s minions. The enemies look like they can be taken out through stealth or just barging in if preferred.
Enemies inĀ Gotham Knights also have numbers above their heads, which could indicate some sort of level gating progression. Additionally, damage numbers appear when attacking them, hinting at some sort of level-up or perhaps gear-based system similar to that of newer Assassin’s Creed titles. This would make sense, as the game actually describes itself as a “third-person action RPG.”
The gameplay trailer ends with a cutscene of Batgirl disrupting Mr. Freeze’s machine that’s causing the chaotic snowstorm around Gotham, followed by a boss battle with the man himself. The battle doesn’t finish, however, as it ends abruptly with the developer saying more information about the game will come at a later date.
Gotham Knights is set to release in 2021 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
