Mini-golf among the clouds.
Do you like miniature golf? Do you like free things? If you answered yes to either of those questions, you may want to open up Steam right now and snag yourself a copy of Vertiginous Golf. The game, which presents mini-golf as a virtual reality past-time in a dystopian, steampunk-inspired world, has been made available for free for twenty-four hours. Install it during this limited window, and it’s yours to keep.
Those who miss the free offer will still be able to save money on it. The game will be listed at 50% off for the remainder of the week.
The bad news is that the influx of players resulting from the promotion has taken a bit of a toll on the servers, and users have reported issues connecting with their friends. A post from the game’s community manager on Steam states that a fix is expected to roll out soon.
The game currently has a “mixed” rating on Steam, which fairly well sums up my experience playing it. It’s conceptually interesting and has a surprising amount of narrative for what’s essentially a sport title, but it also has a somewhat demanding difficulty and the controls take a lot of getting used to. Still, free is free.
