During the June 2022 Nintendo Direct Mini, Square Enix revealed Harvestella, a vibrant life-sim RPG coming to Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam with a release date of November 4, 2022. This game looks dense, giving players the tools to farm, fight, and bond in a world that features lively communities and adventure to enjoy. Whether you take the afternoon to fish and farm or spend your mornings talking with townsfolk before heading into a dungeon, how you spend your days is up to you. Harvestella wants to give players the tools to leave reality for countless hours, but you can see how the seasons will unfold for yourself in the announcement trailer below.
The seasons will genuinely change in Harvestella. You’ll be greeted with spring, summer, autumn, and winter as the time passes, but Square Enix’s new world has environmental dangers too, such as the crop-killing period of Quietus. Harvestella takes place on a planet governed by four giant crystals (very Final Fantasy) and is more than just a lush life-sim RPG playground, however:
One day, the Seaslight start behaving abnormally. Quietus begins to visit in the interim between seasons – and quickly establishes itself as the season of death. The Seaslight glow with a strange light, emitting a dust formed of light that threatens all it touches – crops die, and people are trapped inside.
During one particular Quietus, your character – a traveler – collapses in an isolated village. You meet a girl called Aria, who claims to have come from the future and is researching the mysteries of this new, unwelcome season.
Throughout Harvestella’s story, you’ll meet characters such as Aria, Asyl, and Shrika. In addition to making friends in the game’s many towns, you can also expect to find enemies to battle in its many dungeons. Square Enix even promises sea travel once you’ve managed to acquire your own submarine. More info about Harvestella will be released in the lead-up to the game’s November release date on Switch and PC.
