Remarks made during a preview on the Gametrailers TV show of upcoming PS3 interactive drama Heavy Rain suggest that the anticipated title won’t be coming out until next year.
I confess that I’ve mostly managed to miss the Heavy Rain hype train so far. Maybe it’s because I never played Indigo Prophecy (or Fahrenheit, if you’re outside the States), but the only thing that I really know for sure about Heavy Rain is that when I hear the title, it makes me think of Chocolate Rain. Quite the mental association, there.
Unfortunately, for everyone out there who is looking forward to the game, you’re going to have to wait a little longer. At the end of a special video preview of the game on Gametrailers‘ TV show, presenter Geoff Keighley – who was interviewing the title’s US managing producer – remarked that the game “is going to be coming out next year exclusively for the PlayStation 3.”
This goes against previous remarks from Sony representatives indicating that PS3 owners would see Heavy Rain by the end of this year. While unveiling the game at last year’s Leipzig Game Convention, David Reeves (then the President of Sony Europe) said that it would be “the great game for PlayStation 3 next year.”
While it is always possible that Keighley simply misspoke and that Sony and/or Quantic Dream will be releasing a correction, it seems safe to assume that the title has been pushed back.
Who knows? Maybe the delay will give them time to hire Tay Zonday to do some voicework. Don’t try and tell me that that wouldn’t be awesome, either.
Heavy Rain will be on display at E3 next week.
