Here’s Jonny

This article is over 12 years old and may contain outdated information

Welcome to the first Loading Time, a behind the scenes look at the creative process behind LoadingReadyRun and our various endeavours. Each video will be lovingly hand-filmed by Raymond Steacy (though long-time LRR documentarian Tim Sevenhuysen handles this episode) and will come paired with an accompanying column written less-lovingly by Kathleen.* If you’re interested in seeing what working with LoadingReadyRun is like, or just want to learn silly trivia and the occasional tawdry joke, we hope that you’ll enjoy this peek into the incredibly mysterious, exciting, and hyperbolic world of online sketch comedy.

This week’s video is Jonny. It’s key to note that Graham intentionally mis-spelled Jonny in such a way to leave no doubt in the minds of viewer as to what kind of character he is. It’s actually a good rule of thumb to follow. Getting set up on a blind date with a guy named Charli or a girl named Krysal? You should probably lower your expectations.

The video itself was filmed at our friend Ben’s apartment, which had the unique problem of being too clean to film a post-party video in. After a brief flurry of set dressing (punctuated by what everyone else must have found to be an incredibly annoying philosophical debate between Matt and myself over moral theory), and a very minor amount of futzing to try and get Graham’s hair to appropriate “douche” levels, we had sufficiently compromised the cleanliness of Ben’s living room and we were ready to shoot. At which point we realized that we had forgotten a couple of important props, and Matt and I were sent out to retrieve them. Well, I retrieved them. Matt went to shop for DVDs because he didn’t want to hang out with me while I earned the credit “underwear wrangler.” Ben himself did double duty as both location provider and unconscious background extra.

There you have it: this week’s Loading Time. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading and watching. Let us know what you think in the comments! Are there specific questions you have for us on our process or production? We’ll try to address them in future episodes!

*I’ll write the columns fondly, but I’m not sure I’m ready to commit to love yet. It’s a big emotional investment.
