Hyper Light Breaker sequel to Hyper Light Drifter 3D co-op from Heart Machine

Hyper Light Breaker Is a 3D Co-Op Sequel to Hyper Light Drifter

One indie that has warranted intense dissection is Hyper Light Drifter. The title portrayed a colorful world of decay expertly without any dialogue. Heart Machine, the game’s developer, created another adventure named Solar Ash that looked similarly delightful. However, a direct sequel to Hyper Light Drifter wasn’t on anyone’s mind. But now, Heart Machine, partnering with Gearbox Publishing, has officially unveiled Hyper Light Breaker. This sequel is a 3D co-op story, which is the opposite of the original 2D single-player game.

Take a look at the Hyper Light Breaker announcement trailer, which debuted after G4’s event honoring the first game’s six-year anniversary:

The clip is mostly gorgeous animation from Studio Grackle. The last few seconds show actual gameplay, though. It’s quite a new direction for the series.

Here is an overview of the game from its Steam page:

Enter the Overgrowth, a new land in the world of Hyper Light. Play alone or with friends to explore massive biomes, defeat brutal monsters, create new builds, survive the mysterious Crowns and overthrow the almighty Abyss King in this action rogue-lite adventure from the creators of Hyper Light Drifter.

You can currently wishlist the game via Steam. It is expected to launch in Steam Early Access in spring 2023. No other platforms have been announced besides PC, although it’s doubtful it won’t hit at least PlayStation systems. Both Hyper Light Drifter and Solar Ash launched on its consoles, after all.
