If you’re interested in setting up a new porn site, the .xxx domain is officially open for business for all of your smut-tacular needs.
If you’ve ever wanted to penetrate into the porn industry and set up your very own web site, up until now you’ve had to make do with the most common web domains just like us regular Johnsons: .com, .org, .net and possibly a .edu here and there for some spicy co-ed action (though you’d also have to be, uh, an accredited institution of learning for that one).
Not anymore!
ICANN, the corporation that coordinates the whole internet naming thing, recently approved the .xxx top-level domain for, you guessed it, porn sites. While the use of .xxx TLD is completely optional (and let’s face it, if you have a really good porn site name already you won’t want to get rid of it), ICANN representatives say that the new domain provides “a place online for adult entertainment providers and their service providers who want to be part of our voluntary self regulatory community.”
It also gives parental access-blocking programs a nice “catch-all” blanket to make it harder for little Timmy to get a look at internet ta-tas.
So does this mean if I wanted to make a Vin Diesel porn site, I could register the domain xxx.xxx?
