The video stresses one of Mafia: Definitive Edition’s driving themes: family. With the remake comes better facial animations and lighting, setting things up to be the ultimate version of the crime family’s story. The original game and its New York-like city, Lost Haven, were built by Illusion Softworks in 2002 for PC, later coming to PlayStation 2 and Xbox. Lost Haven’s new coat of paint highlights the shiny sections of the fictional city without sacrificing the grit and grime in its streets, showcasing the care Hangar 13 put into the remake.

Hints at a return for the Mafia series had been coming in waves via trademark filings both in April and May. 2K and Hangar 13 eventually revealed Mafia Trilogy back on May 13.

Mafia: Definitive Edition launches with the rest of Mafia Trilogy on Aug. 28 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The launch date roughly coincides with the 18-year anniversary of the original game’s release.
