Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Players Reporting Errors Installing Physical Copies

Some players are running into an issue with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 that won’t allow them to install physical versions of the game on PlayStation 5 (PS5).

Users began reporting their problems on the sequel’s launch day, October 20. While digital owners seem to be getting along fine as they download their game and start swinging through New York City, those with physical copies are finding that they’re unable to progress. Reddit user Okrym_ posted about the install problem last Friday, saying that “the installation gets stuck around 36%” no matter what they try. Five days removed from launch, hundreds of commenters have since flooded the post and others with similar stories, with no update from developer Insomniac Games to be found.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 players from across the globe have chimed in to complain, with many explaining that their install progress usually halts around 36%. Some have even gone as far as to return their copies of the game. Those who have returned to their stores say they’ve seen lines of others complaining of the same issue. Although the developers haven’t officially commented on the matter, official Insomniac social media pages continue to share links to its support pages for those running into trouble.

“I have contacted the support desk of Insomniac but haven’t heard from them yet,” Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 player sfinxvideos said. “It sucks, but since my free time is quite limited this time of year I contacted my retailer to return the game and bought the digital version since it seems like digital works fine.”

They continued: “Mistakes can happen obviously, but transparency is so important towards customers so they know what they can expect. Just a simple ‘we are aware of the issue, we are working on it and a fix will be coming in [insert timeframe]’ but instead it looks like they remain silent until the fix is there and we have no idea when that will be.”

Insomniac’s silence on an issue that seems to be affecting so many people is certainly strange, especially considering the team has been vocal when it comes to fixing other problems with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Regardless, the team is probably more than aware of the install glitches occurring and is likely staying quiet until they have a fix. When a fix eventually arrives, you’ll be able to read about it here.
