The world premiere of the Mojang documentary will on December 22, a day ahead of the DVD and digital release.
You probably already know that Markus “Notch” Persson whipped up a game called Minecraft in 2009, turned it loose on the internet, got rich and famous, founded Mojang and went to the Xbox 360, where he became (and continues to become) even richer and more famous. But do you know the details? The inside story? What Tim Schafer thinks of the phenomenon, or Mike Krahulik?
If the answer is a regretful “no,” and you happen to have an Xbox Live Gold subscription and nothing to do this weekend, you can change that situation on Saturday night when Minecraft: The Story of Mojang makes its world premiere. The documentary follows the first year of Persson’s studio as it expands from its PC-exclusive roots to multi-million-selling success on Xbox Live, and features appearances by Schafer, Krahulik, Peter Molyneux, Geoff Keighley, Stephen Totilo and noteworthy players who have been “profoundly impacted by the game.”
And there’s no need to worry if your Xbox isn’t Live: The film will be released on DVD and via direct download on December 23. More information about the Xbox Live debut of Minecraft: The Story of Mojang is available from Major Nelson.
