Sony Pictures and Marvel’s Jared Leto-starring vampire movie, Morbius, has suffered a delay yet again, pushing its release date to April 1, 2022. It was previously set to arrive only a few weeks from now on January 28. The decision to push the anti-hero flick almost certainly comes after an increase in positive COVID-19 cases throughout the holiday season.
Morbius has been forced to hang in limbo as the movie industry continues to react to the pandemic. Our first look at Leto’s Dr. Michael Morbius came in early 2020 when Sony released a trailer announcing a July 31, 2020 release date. Pandemic fears set in only a few months later and eventually saw the movie delayed to March 2021, with another delay to October 2021 arriving not long after. Sony then decided to push Morbius two more times – first to January 21, 2022, and then to January 28, 2022 – before today’s delay. An April release date might feel safe for now, but with the unpredictability of the pandemic raging on, there’s no telling how many delays Morbius will endure before it hits theaters.
To ease over the long wait, Sony released another trailer in November to tease more connections with Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, something fans have been keen to learn more about since it was revealed that Michael Keaton is reprising his role as Spider-Man villain Adrian Toomes. Meanwhile, Sony is still riding a high set by Spider-Man: No Way Home, which continues to pull impressive box office numbers.
