Mortal Kombat X Preview – Brutality and Fatality

This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

Mortal Kombat X‘s director of art talks about the gruesome aesthetics of the new MK.

We caught up with Mortal Kombat X art director Steve Beran and got some details about the upcoming game. Beran emphasized the sheer over-the-top detail of the new fatalities, “They’re pretty damn gruesome,” he said, “We have a very detailed method of doing it. With Next Gen we can do almost anything … it’s a new benchmark.”

“The reactions have been good,” said Beran, “lots of people screaming, laughing.”

NetherRealm will also be incorporating the same kind of dynamic battlefields techniques they included in Injstice: Gods Among Us. The battlefields are more dynamic, with items serving defensive as well as offensive purposes. While Mortal Kombat 9 didn’t include much in the way of new characters, Mortal Lombat X has been promised to be chock full of them, with DLC characters on the way much in the same style as Injustice.

Check out the video for the full details. Mortal Kombat X will release in 2015 for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox 360.
