Apple TV+ period comedy 1970s Ricky Martin stars as Robert in Mrs. American Pie with Kristen Wiig Maxine Simmons

Mrs. American Pie, an Apple TV+ Period Comedy, Will Star Ricky Martin

Mrs. American Pie is a new Apple TV+ period comedy that will unexpectedly star music superstar Ricky Martin, according to Deadline. Laura Dern will be an executive producer on the series, and she is also among the cast, which further includes Kristen Wiig and Alison Janney. Ricky Martin will play the male lead, Robert, whereas Kristen Wiig was previously announced as the female lead, Maxine Simmons.

Mrs. American Pie will be 10 episodes long and is based on a novel by Juliet McDaniel. The series is set during the 1970s and will examine questions about “who gets a seat at the table” in Palm Beach high society and how much sacrifice is required to get there. It’s a perfectly relatable setting, since we’ve all tried to infiltrate Palm Beach at one point or another in life. How the character of Robert will fit into Mrs. American Pie is not yet clear, but Ricky Martin has reportedly been seeking “meatier” roles like this one, following a successful stint as Antonio Dā€™Amico in The Assassination of Gianni Versace.

Of course, Martin is best known for his music career that spans multiple decades, and he is one of the most famous music artists Puerto Rico has ever produced. He is best known in the US for 1999’s “Livin’ La Vida Loca,” but I maintain that the 2011 album MĆŗsica + Alma + Sexo is pop music excellence that everyone should rush to give a listen (just sayin’). Meanwhile, Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny will portray the extremely obscure character El Muerto in another Sony Spider-Man spin-off movie.
