Narnia-Not

This article is over 18 years old and may contain outdated information

A lot of people from here in the office are really interested in going to see the new Chronicles of Narnia movie that releases today. Am I the only person not interested in watching it? I read the novels when I was a kid, and I saw the cartoon version of The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. They terrified me. I’m not sure what it was, nor will I ever know.

I watched the trailer and tried to pick up the books to see if it would interest me – no desire. Now, I really am starting to think there is something wrong with me because everyone around me apparently loves The Chronicle.

I watched The NeverEnding Story about 300 times and absolutely loved it at about the same time that I read The Chronicle of Narnia. Both fantasy stories, both old. The NeverEnding Story appealed to me so much more. Whenever it was on the Disney Channel I’d run and scream at my parents to change the channel so I could watch it over and over again. I’d toss the Narnia books aside when they were presented to me. I loved to read as a kid; it was almost all I ever did. To pass up reading was not something I’d ever do. I really disliked the series.

And when I think of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe animated version, all I can think is how much more I enjoyed The Phantom Tollbooth both as an animated film and a novel (well, play in The Phantom Tollbooth‘s case).

So excuse me while I’m the only one who will sit this one out, but quite frankly I’ll pass and play the party-pooper on this movie. Maybe when it comes to DVD, I’ll rent it and see if my opinions have changed. I just don’t feel like dealing with the movie theater crowd and prices for a movie that I’m going to feel lukewarm towards.
