Deep Silver has confirmed that a full-fledged new entry of the time-jumping FPS series TimeSplitters is on the way, with the creators of the series in charge of the new studio set to develop it.
The game is currently in pre-production, as the studio is building up its talent base. Full development is expected to begin “in the coming months,” according to the press release. Given the early announcement, no details about the project other than that it is a series continuation are available.
Meanwhile, the studio behind the new TimeSplitters is named for the original development company: Free Radical Design. The lineage is more than just skin deep, with Deep Silver bringing back original Free Radical founders and series creators Steve Ellis and Dennis Doak. Speaking about today’s announcement, Ellis, who is now Studio Development Director said “To finally be able to confirm that the studio has been formed and that we have a plan for the next TimeSplitters game is incredible.”
The TimeSplitters franchise debuted in 2000, later spawning two sequels. The property was snapped up by Koch Media in 2018, but not before a remake of the second game was hidden away in Crytek’s Homefront: The Revolution. A separate project called TimeSplitters Rewind is also currently being created by a fan-led team.
