Guitar Hero Contollers Sacrificed in Volcano

This article is over 14 years old and may contain outdated information

There are now fewer plastic guitar controllers crowding the world’s homes, thanks to a volcano.

The developers at Seven45 have made an offering to the gods to hope for the success of their upcoming game, Power Gig: Rise of the Six String. They sacrificed tons of unused Guitar Hero controllers to a firey, magma-filled beast.

After acquiring a mass of the guitars in Reykjavik, Iceland, the devs loaded them up into a plane. They then risked their lives to dump them into a giant volcano.

The whole thing was a publicity stunt, of course, with the point being that Power Gig‘s controller, which functions as a real guitar and also as a game controller, is heads-and-tails above what’s been seen in Guitar Hero and Rock Band in their opinion. Power Gig will go up against Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock and Rock Band 3 this holiday season.

Unfortunately, we don’t really get to savor the goodness of watching the controllers burn into oblivion. While I like Guitar Hero as much as the next guy, I think we can all agree that we’ve been a bit innundated by plastic instruments over the past few years. It feels good to know that a bunch of them were dropped into a volcano, just as long as they don’t cause an incident.
