A classic map from Battlefield Vietnam is making a comeback in Battlefield: Bad Company 2
DICE has announced that the upcoming Vietnam expansion for Bad Company 2 will actually contain five maps, rather than four. If you want to play on that fifth map, however, you better be ready to work with your fellow players.
The fifth map in the pack will unlock when players accumulate 69 million team actions. Team actions include healing and reviving other players, resupplying them and repairing vehicles. The good news is that team actions in the main game count as well, but the bad news is that each platform seems to be on its own separate count, which means that less-populated platforms might be looking at a lot of work to unlock the map. The map itself is a remake of the Operation Hastings map from 2004’s Battlefield Vietnam, which will be familiar territory to the long-term PC Battlefield fans, but totally new to plenty of others.
The Battlefield games are at their best when people are playing as part of a team, so the stipulation of team actions will hopefully mean that even people who aren’t buying the expansion will benefit from the sudden increase in teamwork. There will undoubtedly be some people who try and hurry the process along by setting up games to do nothing except farm team actions, but with tens of millions of actions to perform, it’s still going to take a lot of time and teamwork to get the map.
The Vietnam expansion for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will be available to download for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on December 21st
