Due to the success of The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition, LucasArts is shining up its sequel for a similar release.

The previously rumored special edition of historic adventure game Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge has quickly turned out to be more than a rumor. Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge was officially announced by LucasArts this week, and it’ll give the PlayStation 3 its first taste of Guybrush Threepwood.

The game will be digitally released on all of the same platforms as the special edition of The Secret of Monkey Island: PC, iPhone/iPod Touch, and Xbox Live Arcade, but in addition to the PlayStation Network this time around, which will also receive a release of the first revamped title “soon.” LucasArts has the special edition of LeChuck’s Revenge set for release across all platforms in summer 2010.

Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge will add high-definition graphics so real, you can almost feel the spit. Play the game to understand what that means. The music and voices are also being remastered, and an in-depth hint system will be added that includes the ability to highlight interactive objects in the background. Players will be able to move the game’s main character, Guybrush Threepwood, in a more traditional way this time, likely with the arrow keys or a joystick, if pointing-and-clicking just doesn’t work for them.

LucasArts didn’t plan on remaking LeChuck’s Revenge at first, so this announcement just goes to show you that supporting titles like The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition can really pay off. LeChuck’s Revenge is often considered the best game in the series, meaning anyone that enjoyed the first title simply must pick this one up as well. It’s truly one of the best adventure games of all time. If you get stuck, just remember, spit is your friend.
