There are no new Titanfall games in the works at Respawn Entertainment according to studio head Vince Zampella. Zampella reiterated this in an interview with IGN about the studio’s 10-year anniversary. While Respawn continues to see successes with titles like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Apex Legends, Zampella says that there is “nothing currently in development” for Titanfall.
The news may come as a disappointment to hopeful fans, as last year Zampella said that Respawn was in fact working on something Titanfall-related. Although, Apex Legends notably takes place in the Titanfall universe, so spinoff games may not be out of the equation just yet. Plus, Zampella said the series is “always there. You see the little bits of stuff coming back [through the lore in Apex Legends]. At some point, I would personally like to see some kind of resurrection there. We’ll see if I can make that happen.”
Don’t go blaming EA for the lack of Titanfall either, as Zampella added that EA is “mostly hands-off but in a collaborative way.”
Respawn is, of course, still working on other non-Titanfall projects for gamers to anticipate. In fact, besides VR title Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond, an EA spokeswoman said, “It’s safe to assume that yes, you might see some things from Respawn at EA Play.” EA Play is the publisher’s digital event scheduled for June 11, 2020, so we’re less than one month away from finding out what the developer is up to next.
On the other side of the coin is DICE LA, which Zampella is currently overseeing. He says that DICE LA will eventually be renamed in an attempt to give it its own identity, but don’t expect it to be folded into Respawn. Ultimately, DICE LA “is a shooter team,” so we’ll likely see something of that nature when its next game is revealed.
“There’s a lot of really good shooter talent there,” said Zampella. “But I don’t want to lock it in and say that’s definitely exactly what they’re doing, because we’re going to look at everything and pick something that feels amazing. The same tenets that apply to Respawn of doing something new and exciting and kind of breaking the genre a little bit is what we’re going to apply to DICE LA. We’re going to look at trying to do something cool.”
